The Government of Sierra Leone, through the Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, has officially declared 37 individuals affiliated with the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) free from criminal investigations, reinforcing its commitment to the Agreement for National Unity (ANU).
The decision, announced on August 12, 2025, follows Resolution 4 of the National unity agreement signed on October 18, 2023, between the government and the APC.
The Resolution 4 Oversight Committee reviewed the APC’s submitted list and confirmed that the named persons are not under any criminal scrutiny, allowing them to resume normal activities without hindrance.

The Mayor of Freetown, in a social media post, described the day as one of “mixed blessings.” While expressing relief over the release of APC members, including many in exile, the Mayor also noted the somber commemoration of the third anniversary of the killing of Evangelist Samson, stating, “RIP.”
Resolution 4 of the National unity agreement calls for a review of all cases involving individuals perceived by the APC as “politically motivated”arrests.
Earlier, Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh provided an update on the review process, revealing that out of 318 individuals listed by the APC:
– Only 15 are currently in custody.
– 108 escaped from detention during the failed coup attempt on November 26, 2023.
The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay, Esq. emphasized that the clearance of the 37 individuals reaffirms the government’s commitment to implementing all clauses of the National unity agreement fostering political reconciliation and stability in Sierra Leone.
