The Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Kenyeh Barlay, recently announced a significant extension to the National Development Plan during the Ministry of Information’s weekly press briefing.
The plan, traditionally spanning 5 years, will now unfold over 7 years, from January 2024 to December 2030, aligning with the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) deadline.
Minister Barlay highlighted the extensive nationwide consultative process involving over 8,000 individuals across the country in shaping the National Plan. Rooted in the people’s aspirations, it is strategically guided by the big five game changers set forth by His Excellency Dr. Julius Maada Bio.
Dispelling notions of the Feed Salone Project as a mere political maneuver, Minister Barlay emphasized its role in propelling economic development. Given that agriculture constitutes 50% of the country’s GDP, the project aims to elevate this contribution further.
The National Development Plan hinges on five crucial enablers: Economic Diversification, Governance, Climate Resilience, Gender Mainstream Financing, and Implementation and Resource Mobilization.
