Sierra Leone’s Chief Fire Officer, Nazir Ahmad Alie Kamanda Bongay, following their preliminary investigations, has revealed that the severe fire outbreak at the Sierra Leone’s State House was caused by electrical malfunctioning.

The disastrous Fire erupted the State House in the evening hours of Saturday, 12th April, 2025 at 4:00 p.m., leaving the top structure of the building ablaze.

Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah, confirmed that the government has been informed by the office of the Chief Fire Officer, confirming that the State House Fire incident was caused by electrical malfunctioning.

The Minister asserted that the fire sparked on the 3rd floor of the House and spilled over to the 4th floor, which he said causes a severe damage to the House, resulting to the malfunctioning of an electrical appliance.

In the evening hours of Sunday, 13th April, 2025, the Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh conducted an on-site inspection of the fire incident, where he received a detailed briefing on the emergency response measures undertaken and a preliminary assessment of the damage.
