The Executive of the Guild of Newspaper Editors – Sierra Leone (GoNE-SL) strengthened ties with Africell on Friday, 3rd October 2025, by paying a courtesy call to the company’s Wilberforce office in Freetown. The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the media and the telecommunications sector.

The visit, led by GoNE-SL Chairman Thomas Dixon, was aimed at presenting the Guild’s new strategic plan and exploring avenues for partnership with one of Sierra Leone’s leading mobile network operators.

Introducing the Executive, GoNE-SL’s Public Relations Officer, Komba Fillie, highlighted the importance of the meeting and expressed gratitude to Africell for accepting the invitation.

“This engagement demonstrates our commitment to building strong collaborations that will enhance the efficiency and professionalism of the media,” he said.

Chairman Dixon explained that the Guild is focused on securing a permanent secretariat and acquiring a communal printing press that will operate on a cost-recovery model.

“This initiative will reduce operational costs for members, improve efficiency, and strengthen the media landscape,” he noted. He further emphasized GoNE-SL’s dedication to promoting professional journalism through self-regulation and responsible reporting.

In response, Africell Media Manager Abdul Karim Sesay commended the Guild for its initiatives and recalled Africell’s longstanding support for the media in Sierra Leone.

He noted that Africell has consistently partnered with media organizations, including the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and more than 70 radio stations across the country.

Sesay assured the Guild of Africell’s continued support, particularly in the digital space, which aligns with the company’s strategic vision. He encouraged the Guild to regularly engage Africell to expand collaboration and recognized the vital role of the media in promoting transparency, accountability, and improved institutional performance.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to working together to strengthen Sierra Leone’s media landscape.
