Guinea’s President Mamady Doumbouya has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening bilateral relations with Sierra Leone during a visit by his special envoy, Dr. Morissanda Kouyaté, to President Julius Maada Bio in Freetown.
Dr. Kouyaté, who serves as Guinea’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Integration, and Guineans Abroad, delivered a personal message from President Doumbouya and extended warm greetings to President Bio on Tuesday. He expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to the Guinean delegation and addressed concerns regarding the welfare of Sierra Leoneans residing in Guinea.
“Guinea values its historic relationship with Sierra Leone,” Dr. Kouyaté said. He expressed regret over reported issues affecting Sierra Leonean nationals and pledged to work towards addressing these challenges while fostering stronger ties between the two nations.
President Bio welcomed the envoy, emphasizing the deep-rooted connections between the neighboring countries, whose citizens he described as “brothers and sisters.” However, he voiced concern over the reported mistreatment of Sierra Leoneans in Guinea, calling for constructive dialogue to resolve the matter.
“I am committed to strengthening the longstanding relationship between Sierra Leone and Guinea,” President Bio stated. “But it is equally important that we engage constructively to overcome challenges, particularly those affecting our citizens.”
The meeting underscores the continued efforts by both nations to maintain regional harmony and address pressing bilateral issues.
Thank God it over, this was what we want to hear
