The Human Rights Commission of Sierra Leone (HRCSL), led by Chairperson Mrs. Patricia Narsu Ndanema, held a courtesy call with the Irish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Aidan Fitzpatrick, at the ambassador’s office on Spur Road.
The meeting aimed to strengthen the partnership between the Commission and the Irish Embassy, acknowledging ongoing support for human rights initiatives in the country.
In her opening remarks, Commissioner Ndanema expressed her appreciation for the Embassy’s support over the years, stating, “It is an opportunity for me on behalf of the Commission to wish you and your team the very best in 2025.” She highlighted the Commission’s routine practice of engaging with partners and sponsors to express gratitude and update them on its activities and future plans regarding the promotion and protection of human rights in Sierra Leone.
Commissioner Ndanema underscored the critical role of the Irish Embassy in the Commission’s successes, saying, “The many successes the Commission has recorded wouldn’t have been possible without the unflinching support of the Irish Embassy.”
Executive Secretary Joseph Kamara further recognized the Embassy’s longstanding partnership, noting that since 2013, the Irish Embassy, alongside UNDP, has been instrumental in supporting the Commission’s various initiatives. Kamara pointed out that Irish Aid and UNDP funding have facilitated numerous monitoring and evaluation programs, enhancing the Commission’s capacity to address human rights issues.
In response, Ambassador Fitzpatrick commended the Commission’s efforts, particularly in implementing mobile complaint hearing sessions in remote communities. He emphasized the importance of continued advocacy against human rights violations, urging the Commission to intensify its efforts to ensure equity and justice across the country.
The Ambassador reaffirmed the Irish Embassy’s commitment to supporting the Commission’s work, signaling ongoing collaboration in the fight for human rights in Sierra Leone.
