The Diaspora Focus has awarded the –Local Unit Commander of Waterloo Police Division , CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama as best Police officer of the Year 2023 after he secured overwhelming votes by Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad leaving his competitors trailing behind.

In January 2023, the Inspector-General of the Sierra Leone Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, elevated CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama to the position of Local Unit Commander of Waterloo Police Division to lead the affairs of the Police in a community mostly regarded by security experts as “the most troubled and crime-prone” in Sierra Leone.

Since his appointment to the position of LUC of Waterloo, CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama has achieved a lot in terms of Policing at national, regional, and international levels throughout his illustrious 22 years of service.

Enlisted in the Sierra Leone Police Force in 2001, he has earned the trust and confidence of his superiors, colleagues, workmates, as well as members of the public whom he continues to serve.

Before his deployment to the United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) in 2010 as an Individual Police Officer (IPO) where he occupied the highly coveted Principal position of Formed Police Unit (FPU) Coordinator, CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama diligently served Sierra Leone’s former Vice President, Mr. Solomon Ekuma Berewa, as a Close Protection Officer and personal driver. CSP Sama also had excellent stints with the United Nations-backed Special Court for Sierra Leone as a witness protection officer among many other positions he held in Police Divisions in Freetown and other parts of the country.

As the LUC of Waterloo, CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama continues to provide quality leadership and support to various departments, Stations, Posts, and Units within the Waterloo Division. Recently, two brand-new tricycles (Kekeh) and one brand-new TVS motorbike worth hundreds of thousands of new leones were donated to the OSD, CRD, and Media departments of Waterloo Division respectively by LUC Sama to ease the Operational capabilities of his personnel. As if that was not enough, a few weeks ago, he gave a facelift to the office of the LUC of Waterloo by procuring high-quality porcelain floor tiles, modern office chairs and tables, freezers, Air Conditioners, plasma TVs among others which have been fixed for the comfort of everyone, including succeeding LUC’s.

After the failed coup attempt of November 26, 2023,, in which the Pasemba Road Maximum Correctional Center was broken into and prisoners freed, CSP Mr. Ibrahim Mohamed Sama successfully recaptured a total of 50 escaped inmates and handed them back to the Correction Officers for continue facing justice. Little wonder he was appointed by the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, to lead the operations of the armed wing of the Sierra Leone Police Force.
