The Minister of Youth Affairs, Hon. Ibrahim Sannoh, met with the Campaign for Human Rights and Development International (CHRDI) to discuss collaborative efforts addressing human rights issues affecting young people.
During the meeting, CHRDI’s Executive Director, Mr. Andrew Fatorma, presented the organization’s latest Human Rights Monitoring Visitation Report.
The report, which covers the conditions of detainees in police stations from April to May 2025, revealed critical issues such as over-detention, challenges in accessing bail, and trends in custodial practices.
Minister Sannoh expressed appreciation for the findings, recognizing CHRDI’s dedication to accountability and justice. He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to championing youth rights, stating, “We are ready to partner with CHRDI on impactful initiatives, especially at a time when, according to the Status of Youth Report, 39% of young people in Sierra Leone say they do not trust the justice system.”
The meeting aimed to strengthen collaboration on several key areas, including Youth in Governance, Human Rights, Rule of Law, Alternative Dispute Resolution, and Youth, Peace, and Security.
A major outcome of the discussion was the mutual commitment to establish a youth parliament, envisioned as a national platform to amplify young voices in governance and policy development.
The initiative seeks to foster leadership, encourage civic participation, and ensure that youth perspectives are integral to decision-making processes, underscoring a renewed commitment to safeguarding human rights, and reflecting a proactive approach to addressing the concerns of the youth in the country.
I think this ministry have been given to someone with vision, Though it too late
