The Secretary-General of the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), Major General Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Moghedi, has arrived in Freetown at the head of a high-level delegation to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation with Sierra Leone.

Major General Al-Moghedi arrived alongside seven senior officials of the IMCTC and was warmly received by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed Barrie, who arrived from Saudi Arabia a day earlier, and Brigadier General Samuel Bob Farmar, Sierra Leone’s Head of Delegation to the IMCTC, who has been in the country since January 1.

An advance team of IMCTC delegates arrived in Freetown on Saturday, January 10, 2026, ahead of the main delegation. In total, Major General Al-Moghedi is leading a 20-member team on a mission focused on deepening strategic collaboration with Sierra Leone’s defence and security institutions.

During the visit, the IMCTC delegation is expected to hold strategic discussions with the Ministry of Defence and other key stakeholders on counter-terrorism cooperation, capacity building, and regional security challenges.

A major highlight of the visit will be the organisation and delivery of counter-terrorism training for Sierra Leone’s security sector. The training programme is scheduled to run from January 13 to February 3, 2026, and is aimed at enhancing operational readiness, intelligence coordination, and response capabilities in addressing terrorism and related security threats.

The visit underscores Sierra Leone’s growing engagement with international security partners and reflects the IMCTC’s broader mandate to support member states through training, expertise sharing, and coordinated efforts to combat terrorism across regions.
