Sierra Leone and Iran reaffirmed their longstanding diplomatic relations on Friday as the Iranian Ambassador to Sierra Leone, H.E. Sadati Amiri, held discussions with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh.
The meeting took place in Hon. Conteh’s chambers at OAU Drive in Freetown.
The discussions stemmed from Hon. Conteh’s recent visit to Tehran, where he attended the 14th presidential inauguration ceremony of Iran. Accompanied by Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray, the representative of Moyamba district, Hon. Conteh engaged in fruitful talks during his time in the Iranian capital.
Expressing his appreciation for the hospitality extended to him during the visit, Hon. Conteh described the trip as a “pleasant and enlightening experience,” noting that it provided him with a clearer understanding of the geopolitical realities of the region and Iran in particular.
Key issues on the agenda included Sierra Leone’s current role as the President of the United Nations Security Council and the country’s priorities on strengthening bilateral trade relations. Ambassador Amiri lauded Sierra Leone’s constructive approach on the global stage and emphasized the need for continued collaboration in addressing international challenges.
The meeting also focused on deepening parliamentary cooperation between the two nations, with both sides exploring ways to enhance the legislative partnership between their respective legislative bodies.
This meeting marks a significant step in the ongoing efforts to solidify Sierra Leone-Iran relations, as both countries look to expand their bilateral cooperation in various sectors.
