James Cleverly, the newly appointed Secretary for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs in the United Kingdom Government has on Thursday held bilateral discussion with Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio.
Sierraloaded reports that Cleverly, who was born to a British Father and Sierra Leonean Mother was among the cabinet members appointed by newly elected British Prime Minister, Liz Truss on Tuesday.
James Cleverly who take over Ms Truss’s old office as the new foreign secretary. He has served as foreign secretary before for the Middle East and North Africa, and later for Europe and North America. He most recently served as education secretary in the last government.
Speaking on a telephone conversation with President Julius Maada Bio on Thursday, Cleverly confirmed his historical heritage and ties with Sierra Leone which affirming that both countries share the same interest on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
“I am proud of my Sierra Leonean heritage Fantastic to speak to @PresidentBio about historic ties and shared values between our countries. We discussed how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has impacted global food security and agreed it was in all our interests for this war to end.”, He said.

President Bio also took to Twitter to conversation. He wrote; “It was great speaking to @JamesCleverly, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, UK, and I congratulated him on his recent appointment. I assured him of Sierra Leone’s unflinching support in his new role. I also pledged our commitment to strengthening the bond that exists between @GOVUK and Sierra Leone.”
