She then served in Kinshasa as Second Secretary for Political and Economic affairs from 2004 to 2007, followed by her role as First Secretary in Abidjan from 2007 to 2009. Between 2009 and 2012, she was part of the FCO’s Eastern Europe and Central Asia Directorate.

From 2012 to 2014, Ms. Gauld was the Deputy Head of Chancery in Abuja. She further enhanced her diplomatic credentials by attending the prestigious Ecole Nationale d’Administration in Strasbourg from 2014 to 2016. Subsequently, she was appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador in Abidjan, a position she held from 2016 to 2020.

Ms. Gauld’s extensive experience, particularly in Africa, positions her well to strengthen the ties between the United Kingdom and Sierra Leone. Her previous roles have equipped her with a deep understanding of the political and economic landscapes in various regions, which will be invaluable in her new role as High Commissioner.

The appointment of Ms. Gauld underscores the UK’s commitment to maintaining strong diplomatic relations with Sierra Leone. Her expertise and leadership are expected to further enhance the bilateral relations between the two nations, fostering cooperation in areas such as development, trade, and environmental sustainability.

Sierra Leone can anticipate a continuation of robust and positive engagement with the United Kingdom under Ms. Gauld’s tenure.
