The Christian Lawyers Centre, widely known as LEGAL LINK, commemorated its 6th Anniversary on December 10, 2023, with a Thanksgiving ceremony that highlighted its contributions to defending the rights of religious communities and vulnerable groups in Sierra Leone.
During the event, Executive Director, Lawyer Rashid Dumbuya, reflected on LEGAL LINK’s journey since its establishment in 2018. He noted the organization’s significant impact, citing thousands of vulnerable individuals and religious groups who have received legal support and charitable assistance.
“We are grateful to the government, the Christian community, and the people of Sierra Leone for their unwavering support, which has enabled us to achieve our goals,” Dumbuya remarked. He also acknowledged the numerous awards the organization has received in recognition of its work.
A centerpiece of the ceremony was the unveiling of LEGAL LINK’s 2024 Annual Report. The 93-page document provides a comprehensive overview of the organization’s activities, achievements, and challenges in 2023. Among its highlights, the report delves into the aftermath of the attempted coup d’état on November 26, 2023, offering key recommendations for the government, religious communities, and state agencies to promote stability and human rights.
The report emphasizes the need for collective efforts to address ongoing challenges and calls for greater collaboration between civil society organizations, government institutions, and religious entities.
As LEGAL LINK looks to the future, the organization expressed hope that its work will continue to strengthen human rights protections and foster unity in Sierra Leone. The 2024 Annual Report underscores LEGAL LINK’s belief that “where there is a will to go beyond the ordinary, much can be achieved.”
