Sierra Leone’s historic debut at the Paris 2024 Olympics was marred by a defeat for 17-year-old judo competitor Mariama Koroma.
In a match that lasted just 1 minute and 6 seconds, Koroma faced off against 36-year-old Taiwanese veteran Lien Chen-ling in the ’57 kg Women’s Elimination Round of 16.
Despite a strong effort, Koroma was unable to overcome the experienced Chen-ling, marking a tough start for Sierra Leone’s Olympic campaign.
The bout, which had generated significant interest due to the age gap between the competitors, ended with Chen-ling emerging victorious.
Congratulation our dear sister ……you did well …Our culture doesn’t allowed us to fright our elders ….So it’s a win for us by accepting our elder to beat or win points against us

Congratulations Mariama for representing Sierra Leone at the 2024 Olympics in Paris. Young as you are ( a teenager of 17 years old) you were able to fight a 37 year old Lein Chin Ling.

Hold your head up with pride Mariama . Continue to train hard. The person who beat you is 36 years old. If you are still competing at that age, you can make it to the olympics four more times, maybe even five. Keep working and you can win a gold medal for you and your country some day. You did well.
