The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has officially published the approved price list for uniforms and related items for Junior Secondary School (JSS) and Senior Secondary School (SSS) pupils for the 2026/2027 academic year.
In a notice issued from the Ministry’s headquarters at New England, Freetown, parents and guardians have been urged to take note of the prescribed costs as they prepare for the upcoming school year.
According to the price list, JSS and SSS boys are required to purchase a pocket badge at 20.00 New Leone, while a neck tie, though not mandatory, is listed at 50.00 New Leone. Two sets of sewn uniforms with badges are priced at 450.00 New Leone for JSS boys and 500.00 New Leone for SSS boys.
For JSS and SSS girls who are Muslim, the approved items include a hijab at 75.00 New Leone, a pocket badge at 20.00 New Leone, and two sets of sewn uniforms with badges at 450.00 New Leone.
Christian JSS girls are required to have a beret and crest at 90.00 New Leone, a belt at 90.00 New Leone, a pocket badge at 20.00 New Leone, and two sets of sewn uniforms with badges at 450.00 New Leone.
For Christian SSS girls, the list includes a felt hat and band at 210.00 New Leone, a belt at 90.00 New Leone, a pocket badge at 20.00 New Leone, and two sets of sewn uniforms with badges at 450.00 New Leone.
The notice, signed by the Chief Examiner Officer on behalf of municipal and senior secondary school authorities, is aimed at ensuring transparency and protecting parents from arbitrary overcharging by school administrators or suppliers.
Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, shared the price list publicly, encouraging parents and guardians to familiarise themselves with the approved rates as they make preparations for the new academic year.
