The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education MBSSE has started the construction of 106 classrooms in 12 Primary Schools and nine Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) under the Sierra Leone Free Quality Education Project.

The 21 sites in nine districts were formally handed over to the contractors from 18-22 August 2022 and comprised three in the Western Area Urban, two in Western Area Rural, six in the South, three in the North, one in NorthWest, and six in the East.

This first phase of the construction works is part of the key project activities for the construction of 510 classrooms nationwide by MBSSE in the five-year lifespan of the Sierra Leone Free Quality Education Project (2020-2025).

The Free Education Project is year of multi-donor support to the Sierra Leone Free Quality School Education Programme of MBSSE with the development objective to improve the Management of the Educational System, Teaching Practices, and Learning Conditions.

The World Bank, European Union, Irish Aid, Foreign Commonwealth Development Office, Global Partnership for Education, and the Government of Sierra Leone fund the project.
