The Minister of Agriculture and Food Security,  Henry Musa Kpaka, alongside his senior officials and project staff from the Sierra Leone Rice Agro-Industrial Cluster and the Regional Rice Value Chain Project of the Ministry of Agriculture, visited irrigation sites and milling facilities in Tormabum, Bonthe District.

During this tour, the team assessed the ongoing construction of modern irrigation systems and showcased a functional milling facility in Tormabum.

Also, the Minister launched a training programme aimed at helping farmers transition from subsistence to profitable commercial enterprises in Bo city during his tour.

Following the training, the team visited the 64 mt per day capacity Rice Cluster at Gbondapi in Pujehun District. According to the Minister, the facility will be ready soon to provide services to farmers. An initiative funded under the SL-RAIC Project.

These facilities are part of the government Feed Salone initiative to use agriculture as the engine for development.

Finally, the Minister of Agriculture will continue his tour to Kenema tomorrow, where he will engage the cocoa stakeholders on the new cocoa trade policy and visit farms in Kenema District.
