Deputy Minister of Information and Civic Education, Bockarie Abdel Aziz Bawoh, on Friday, 31 July 2026, convened a special press conference in Freetown to brief members of the Fourth Estate on the forthcoming official State visit of the President of the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, to Sierra Leone.
Speaking during the engagement, Bawoh said President Oligui Nguema is expected to arrive in Sierra Leone on 2 August 2026 for a visit that underscores the growing strength of bilateral relations between the two countries.
He described the visit as a significant diplomatic engagement that reflects the mutual commitment of Sierra Leone and Gabon to deepen cooperation in key areas, including trade, investment and democratic governance.
The Deputy Minister called on journalists, online publishers and bloggers to disseminate accurate information about the visit and promote positive messages about Sierra Leone, emphasising the important role of the media in projecting the country’s image and supporting national development efforts.
Bawoh noted that this would be President Oligui Nguema’s first visit to Sierra Leone since his constitutional election on 3 May 2025.
According to him, the Gabonese leader is scheduled to tour selected tourist attractions in Freetown and hold a series of high-level meetings with senior government officials and representatives of the private sector.
He explained that the engagements are aimed at strengthening economic cooperation, encouraging investment opportunities, expanding trade relations and reinforcing democratic consolidation between Sierra Leone and Gabon.
The Ministry of Information and Civic Education said the visit is expected to further enhance diplomatic ties and open new avenues for collaboration between the two nations.
