The Minister of Lands Housing and Country Planning, Dr. Turad Senesie, has officially handed over a survey plan for a total stretch of 168 acres of land to the leadership and indigenes of Charlotte in the Western Area Rural community.
This gesture follows a request made by the community some two years ago for the state to allocate the land for development purposes.
During the handover of the survey plan and conveyance to the elated community, Minister Senesie highlighted that the decision to allocate the land was made in line with the President’s keen interest in preserving the history of Charlotte.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment to reclaiming state land from encroachers, the Minister announced the state’s resolve to allocate such land to deserving Sierra Leoneans for residential and developmental purposes.
The community members expressed their gratitude to the Minister for fulfilling his promise to “return Charlotte to its people.” They pledged to utilize the land judiciously and contribute to the sustainable development of their community.
The successful handover signifies a collaborative effort between the government and the local community to promote responsible land management and equitable access to resources. This initiative reflects a positive step towards empowering communities and fostering inclusive development in Sierra Leone.
As the government continues its efforts to reclaim state land and allocate it for productive purposes, such actions aim to enhance community engagement and strengthen partnerships in the pursuit of sustainable development goals.
