The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a stern warning to the public regarding fraudulent activities involving the impersonation of visa processing officials.

In a press release dated January 7, 2026, the Ministry revealed that certain staff members have been extorting money from citizens under the false pretense of facilitating visa applications.

According to the statement signed by Senior Permanent Secretary Alfred Lahai, the Ministry emphasized that it does not process visas and is solely responsible for supervising agencies and departments under its purview.

“Any individual who gives money to staff members for visa-related services does so at his or her own risk,” the release stated.
The Ministry further warned that any staff member found engaging in such fraudulent transactions would face prosecution and immediate dismissal from the Civil Service.

“You have been warned,” the statement concluded.

The announcement comes amid growing concerns over corruption and exploitation within public institutions. Officials say the Ministry remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability, particularly in matters affecting citizens’ mobility and international engagement.
