The Ministry of Transport has taken proactive steps ahead of a rumored protest by unknown individuals scheduled for June 19, 2024.
On Monday, June 17, 2024, the Ministry signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with various stakeholders in the commercial transport sector to ensure national peace and cohesion.
Under the MOU, the Ministry has partnered with the drivers’ union, keke riders, and bike riders union, urging them to refrain from any form of violence and to avoid aiding, supporting, or transporting individuals participating in the planned protest.
Rex Bonafa, Deputy Minister of Transport, emphasized the importance of normal business operations and urged all transport unions to be law-abiding citizens.
Furthermore, Bonafa called on the unions to promptly report any unlawful gatherings to the authorities to help maintain peace across the country.
The Sierra Leonean authorities have been on high alert since rumors of the planned protest surfaced about a month ago
