Dr. Jonathan Taitus William, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Planning and Economic development (MoPED) and team, has handed Sierra Leone’s Medium Term National Development Plan ownership to local authorities of the Port Loko District.

In a well-attended occasion at the district council hall on the 29 October this year, the Honorable minister transferred a set of items including brochures, bags, and cups to District and City Council heads and Paramount Chiefs as official owning of the plan by local authorities for implementation.

Launched on the 30th January this year, the plan was built on the five game changers of President Bio’s 2018 camping manifesto that include Feed Salone, Human Capital Development, Job creation, Technology and Infrastructure, and the Transformation of the Public sector.

Speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Minister emphasized on unity and team work after elections in Sierra Leone, drawing parallel to the current contentious American election and how Americans can unite and develop their country despite their political differences after.

He went to say, “What we bring today to you all is to enable the positioning of the district at center of implantation, monitoring and evaluation of all our national development plan.” Dr. William clarified that the document is crafted base on emerging challenges and promised government’s best effort to implement it. He concluded by thanking the two councils for collaborating with MoPED for the engagement.

Chairman Sheku Saccoh of the District Council stressed on the significance of the plan and warned against politicizing it. The engagement brought together many stakeholders including Paramount Chiefs, Parliament representatives, development sector heads, media, INGO’s, council staff, civil society organizations, and many others. statements of various speakers were all centered on the acceptance and promotion of the plan.
