“The Ministry of Health and Sanitation, through the National Public Health Agency, has confirmed 100 additional Mpox cases in the country, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 961 as of Tuesday, April 29, 2025.
According to recent update, the country currently has 663 active cases, with 289 individuals recovering from the illness.
Tragically, two further deaths have been reported, bringing the total number of deaths to nine. The gender breakdown of confirmed cases suggests a somewhat higher infection rate among males, with 517 male cases versus 444 female cases.
Western Urban Area remains to be the most struck district, with 734 cases reported, next to it is Western Rural Area with 173 cases. Other districts with new cases include Bombali having 18, Kenema 4, Karene 1, and Kono 7 cases, among others.
Many districts, like Bonthe, Falaba, Kailahun, and Koinadugu, are reported not to have registered any verified cases. Health experts have explained the importance of early discovery, isolation, and community awareness in reducing the outbreak. The public is asked to be watchful, report possible cases, and follow suggested health standards.
Citizens are asked to contact the national toll-free number 117 in the event of a suspected case or an emergency. The government continues to constantly monitor the situation and is collaborating with foreign health partners to reduce the disease’s spread and effect.
