The Government of Sierra Leone has released its latest update on the mpox outbreak, reporting a concerning rise in new infections and fatalities dated May 14, 2025.

According to the National Public Health Agency, the nation recorded 57 new confirmed mpox cases. Tragically, the update also indicates two new deaths attributed to the virus, bringing the total death toll to 13.

The cumulative number of confirmed mpox cases in Sierra Leone now stands at 2204, with 1782 cases currently active. Encouragingly, there were 16 new recoveries reported, increasing the total number of individuals who have recovered from the illness to 409.

Geographically, the Western Urban district continues to be the most affected area, with a total of 1424 confirmed cases. Western Rural follows with 473 cases. Among the other districts, Bombali has reported 108 cases, and Kenema has 36.

The gender distribution of confirmed cases shows that 1036 cases are female and 1168 are male.
