The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE) on Friday, 5 December 2025, hosted a high-level delegation from the Anhui Provincial Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) to advance bilateral cooperation in higher education, technology, and skills development.
The delegation, was led by Zheng Hong, Vice Chairperson of the Anhui CPPCC, who visited Sierra Leone to explore new areas of partnership and strengthen existing ties. Zheng Hong highlighted Anhui Province’s strong research culture, extensive university network, and rapidly expanding industries, including artificial intelligence and new energy vehicle manufacturing. He also underscored the province’s modern transport systems and vibrant tourism sector.
According to Zheng, Anhui maintains active partnerships across several countries and hosts numerous international firms, while many Anhui-based companies continue to expand globally. He added that the delegation will extend its stay in Sierra Leone to identify concrete opportunities for collaboration and determine areas where meaningful support can be provided.
Welcoming the delegation, Minister Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie commended China’s long-standing contribution to Sierra Leone’s educational and technological advancement through scholarships, training opportunities, and institutional collaborations. She highlighted ongoing initiatives, including an existing Memorandum of Understanding with the China University of Geosciences in Wuhan.

Dr. Wurie reaffirmed that strengthening technology, innovation, and digital transformation remains central to President Julius Maada Bio’s national development agenda. She said the Ministry is seeking Chinese support in university digitalization, smart classroom deployment, joint research programs, staff and student exchanges, and broader innovation-driven projects.

The meeting concluded with both parties expressing strong interest in expanding cooperation in higher education, research, and emerging technologies, marking another step forward in Sierra Leone-China relations.
