Mohamed C. Bah, the Leader of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and 2023 Presidential Candidate, extended words of encouragement and unity to the people of Sierra Leone as they ushered in the year 2024.

Against the backdrop of a tumultuous 2023 marked by a disputed election and economic challenges, Bah acknowledged the resilience of Sierra Leoneans in the face of adversity. He addressed the inflationary economy, escalating fuel prices, and a high cost of living that continues to impact ordinary citizens across the country.

Bah also reflected on the unsettling events of November 26, 2023, when the nation experienced what the government referred to as a “failed coup attempt,” leading to heightened tensions and concerns about the country’s peace and stability.

In his message, Bah highlighted the critical juncture at which Sierra Leone finds itself, emphasizing the need for enlightened and steadfast leadership to navigate the challenges effectively. He cautioned against the potential for conflict if the nation fails to address its current predicaments with patience and vision.

The opposition leader urged Sierra Leoneans to uphold the principles of justice, emphasizing the importance of distinguishing between innocent citizens and those responsible for causing harm and injustice. He called for a commitment to equal justice and cautioned against targeting innocent individuals for political reasons.

Bah passionately advocated for an end to the divisive forces of tribalism and regionalism, urging citizens to embrace unity in diversity. He emphasized that Sierra Leoneans share a common heritage and should view their diversity as a valuable asset in rebuilding the nation.

Expressing concern over the economic challenges faced by the country, Bah called for a departure from politics driven by ethnicity and confrontation. He urged political leaders to focus on contributing meaningfully to the well-being of the people, promoting technology, trade, and investment to ensure sustainable development.

In his closing remarks, Bah called on Sierra Leoneans to reject violence and divisive politics, emphasizing that these have not contributed to the nation’s progress. He encouraged citizens to be law-abiding, patriotic, and focused on serving the collective good of Sierra Leone.

Bah concluded his message by wishing the people of Sierra Leone a happy, joyous, and prosperous New Year, invoking blessings for the nation.
