A 21-year-old student of Njala University, Luckman Koroma, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown, facing a charge of motor manslaughter.
The charge stems from an incident that occurred on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at around 11:00 AM at Cole Farm Junction in the Western Area of Freetown. According to the particulars of the offence, Koroma, who was driving a vehicle with registration number ARD 999, a Toyota FJ Cruiser, is alleged to have unlawfully killed Mohamed Kawa.
During the court session, the charge was read and explained to the accused, but no plea was taken. The prosecuting officer, Inspector Sellu Tap, requested a short adjournment to allow him time to confer with his witness.
Magistrate Kekura, considering the seriousness of the charge, denied bail and ordered that Luckman Koroma be remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. The matter has been adjourned to September 2, 2024.
