The National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone (NOC-SLE) and the OlympAfrica Foundation have signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to construct a new OlympAfrica Sports and Development Centre in Kalangba, Karene District, located in the northern region of Sierra Leone.

The signing ceremony took place at the NOC/CGA-SLE headquarters on Walpole Street in Freetown and was attended by several government officials and sports stakeholders. Present at the event were the Minister of Sports, Augusta James-Teima; Chairman of the National Sports Authority (NSA) Board, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh; Director of Sports, Momodu Alpha; and Sports Ambassador Junior Bio.

The agreement was formalized by NOC-SLE President, Prince Vandy Sualley, and OlympAfrica Foundation Director General, Alhassane Thierno Diack. The MOU marks a collaborative effort to promote Olympic values, expand access to sports infrastructure, and enhance youth and community development in underserved areas.

According to the parties involved, the forthcoming OlympAfrica Centre in Kalangba will serve as a dedicated facility for grassroots sports training, community engagement, and social development. The initiative aligns with broader efforts to decentralize sports opportunities and nurture athletic talent at the local level.

Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the project’s potential to transform the region into a hub for youth development and physical education. The facility is expected to provide structured training programs, recreational activities, and educational initiatives aimed at fostering healthy lifestyles and community cohesion.

This partnership between NOC-SLE and the OlympAfrica Foundation reflects a shared vision of using sports as a tool for empowerment, inclusion, and long-term national development. Once completed, the Kalangba OlympAfrica Centre will become the first of its kind in the Karene District and a model for future projects across the country.

Construction timelines and further implementation plans are expected to be announced in the coming months.
