The National Revenue Authority (NRA) recently concluded a high-level strategic engagement with the World Bank focused on aligning international support with Sierra Leone’s urgent domestic reforms in public financial management (PFM) and revenue mobilization.
The discussions come at a critical time as Sierra Leone navigates a shifting global economic landscape, characterized by declining international budget support and a heightened need for fiscal self-reliance.
The engagement served as a platform to review the World Bank’s current support portfolio and ensure it remains synchronized with the NRA’s “priority reform areas.”

Central to the talks were accelerating the rollout of digital platforms, including the Integrated Tax Administration System (ITAS) and ASYCUDA World, to minimize manual intervention and reduce leakages, and streamlining tax administration processes to improve the ease of doing business and encourage voluntary compliance, and strengthening the oversight and accountability mechanisms that govern how public funds are collected and utilized.
The partnership notably reflects a shared commitment to transforming Sierra Leone’s economy through disciplined financial management and a modern, efficient revenue system.
