Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Kabba, has stated that Yenga belongs to Sierra Leone.

During a press briefing, Minister Kabba stressed the importance of diplomatic processes and emphasized that the ongoing dispute over the Yenga territory with Guinea will be resolved through enhanced diplomatic efforts.

Kabba reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s sovereignty over the Yenga territory, asserting, “The fact that Yenga belongs to Sierra Leone is indisputable.” Discussing recent diplomatic developments, Kabba recounted his visit to the Yenga region, which lies along the Sierra Leone-Guinea border.

Acting on instructions from President Julius Maada Bio, Kabba observed an encampment established by Guinean forces within the disputed territory. “I directly addressed the Guinean Armed Forces and informed them that the area they had occupied is Sierra Leonean territory,” Kabba said.

He expressed confidence that the Yenga dispute would be resolved through continued diplomatic engagement. Following his visit, Kabba assured that Sierra Leone would engage with Guinean authorities in Conakry to address the issue and restore control over the Yenga territory.

Minister Kabba outlined the country’s foreign policy objectives, which are centered on international cooperation and the maintenance of peace and security for regional stability. He expressed optimism that Sierra Leone and Guinea would work collaboratively to resolve the Yenga issue amicably, ensuring peace and security in the region.
