Mohamed Orman Bangura has officially handed over his responsibilities as Minister of Youth Affairs to Deputy Minister, Hon. Patrick Gibrilla, who will now serve as acting minister until a new appointment is made by President Julius Maada Bio.

The handover, which took place earlier today, ensures a smooth transition and continuity of operations within the Ministry of Youth Affairs.

Hon. Patrick Gibrilla will oversee the Ministry’s daily functions, maintaining its focus on supporting the youth of Sierra Leone.

In a statement released following the handover, Mohamed Orman Bangura expressed gratitude to President Bio for his trust and support over the past seven years. He highlighted several key achievements during his tenure, including:

  • Operationalizing the National Youth Service Sierra Leone, providing internships and job opportunities for graduates.
  • Improving the Ministry’s performance rating from “high risk” to consistently “low risk” by partners since 2019.
  • Launching the National Youth Policy and advancing the Youth Portal and Status of Youth Report.
  • Restoring partnerships and ensuring transparent audits.
  • Supporting 8,000 youth-led businesses through various projects.
  • Empowering over 5,000 youth in technology and creating jobs in various sectors.
  • Pioneering the Youth Empowerment Fund and advancing sustainable mobility initiatives.

Bangura expressed confidence in Acting Minister Patrick Gibrilla and thanked his team for their dedication. He also apologized for any offense caused during his time in office.

“My commitment to Sierra Leone’s youth remains unshakable. I’ll continue serving our nation in any capacity!” Bangura stated.

The President is expected to announce a new Minister of Youth Affairs in the coming days.
