The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Parliament, chaired by Deputy Speaker Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has summoned six institutions to appear before Parliament this week to address issues highlighted in the 2023 Auditor General’s report on Sierra Leone’s accounts.

The hearings, which commence today, will require Vote Controllers and heads of the summoned institutions to respond to numerous queries raised in the report. Hon. Conteh, who also serves as PAC Chairman, emphasized the importance of accountability and ordered that all relevant documents must be presented during the proceedings.

The institutions summoned include:

  • Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation
  • National Revenue Authority (NRA)
  • Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE)
  • Ministry of Health and Sanitation
  • Ministry of Communications
  • Zoodlab

This follows a similar session last week, where six other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were called to account for over 233 billion old leones that auditors reported as unaccounted for in 2023.

The Auditor General’s findings have raised significant concerns over the management of public funds, prompting PAC’s rigorous oversight. The report, already laid before Parliament, highlights lapses and irregularities across various MDAs, demanding urgent action.

In a related development, the Sierra Leone Police Force has confirmed the dismissal of 41 officers and the suspension of 198 personnel for committing various crimes in 2024.

The disciplinary actions follow investigations into misconduct within the force, underscoring efforts to address corruption and unethical practices among law enforcement officers.
