The Parliament of Sierra Leone has approved fifteen (15) presidential nominees following the presentation of a report by the Committee on Appointments and Public Service on Wednesday, 15th October 2025. The committee’s proceedings were chaired by the Acting Leader of Government Business, Hon. Bashiru Silikie.

Presenting the nominees to the plenary, Hon. Silikie informed Members of Parliament that the nominees were thoroughly interviewed in Committee Room One at the Parliament Building, Tower Hill, Freetown.

He noted that the interviews, conducted under oath, focused on the nominees’ professional experience, track records, tax obligations, asset declarations, and vision for their respective appointments. He further stated that the report reflected the unanimous views of the committee.

Seconding the motion, the Whip of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara of Kambia District, confirmed his participation in the vetting process and commended several nominees for their patriotism and potential contributions to national development.

He urged the nominees to address issues such as drug abuse and to promote viable investments through institutions like the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT).

In his contribution, the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Abdul Kargbo, emphasized the need for appointees to prioritize national interest over personal gain. He specifically called on the nominee for the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority (SLRSA), Mr. Moses Henry Kamara, to address the rising number of road accidents, citing 622 incidents recorded nationwide as “a serious concern for public safety.” Hon. Kargbo also expressed concern about the high cost of air travel and appealed for government intervention.

Concluding the debate, Acting Leader of Government Business Hon. Bashiru Silikie admonished the nominees to uphold the confidence reposed in them by the President and the people of Sierra Leone.

He reiterated Parliament’s constitutional authority to vet and approve nominees and urged them to respect the institution and work collectively toward national development.
