Sierra Leone Parliament has formally invited national leaders, current and former legislators, government ministers and members of the public to attend the official lying-in-state ceremony of the late Hon. Dr. Bu-Buakei Jabbi Esq, a former Member of Parliament for Kailahun District.

The invitation was contained in a public notice issued by the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, which announced that the ceremony will be held at the State Hall of Parliament on Thursday, 08 January 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

According to the Office of the Clerk of Parliament, the invitation is extended to the Leadership of Parliament, present and former Honourable Members of Parliament, Ministers of Government, the family of the deceased and mourners.

The Office of the Clerk of Parliament stated that the lying-in-state is being organised in honour of Hon. Dr. Bu-Buakei Jabbi, who served as a Member of Parliament representing Kailahun District in the Fourth Parliament of the Second Republic.

The notice further noted that the late former legislator “contributed immensely and in diverse capacities for the development of Sierra Leone,” a contribution Parliament said warrants official recognition by the House.

The Office of the Clerk of Parliament also encouraged mourners to attend the ceremony and to be punctual.

The lying-in-state at the State Hall of Parliament forms part of Parliament’s official observances to honour former Members who have served the country through legislative service.
