The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Harbour Police Division, CSP Emmanuel Kpulun, along with his Operations Officer, Inspector Alpha Umaru Jalloh, and the Local Policing Partnership Board (LPPB) Regional Secretary General of Freetown-East, Mr Melbourne Greene, conducted a sensitization meeting on Monday, March 4th, 2024.
The meeting was aimed at extending peace and non-violence awareness to the parents and guardians of school-going pupils from the Government Municipal Secondary School (JSS Level) at Kissy Dockyard.
During the meeting, the LUC expressed concern over the level of lawlessness among the school-going pupils and urged everyone to address the issue collectively to ensure the safety and well-being of the children and the community at large. He also warned that any school-going pupil caught engaging in public order offences, riotous conduct or lawless activities would be arrested, investigated, and charged to court for further prosecution.
Mr Greene further advised parents to monitor their children’s activities, as some of the school-going pupils have been arrested with offensive items like knives, bottles, stones, sticks, and dangerous illegal drugs like Kush. He expressed concern over the impact of Kush on the younger generation and called for collective efforts to fight against it.
The JSS principal, Mr Mohamed Alhaji Bangura, thanked the LUC, his team, the Community Relations Department (CRD) of the Harbour Division headed by Sgt. 9585 Dumbuya E.S, and the LPPB Regional Secretary General for their continuous efforts to conduct peace and non-violence sensitization at his school and other schools within the Freetown-East Region. He reiterated that any school-going pupil who engages in any form of violence and lawlessness will face the consequences of their actions.
The parents commended the police, LPPB team, and the school authorities for their relentless efforts to safeguard future generations. They urged each parent/guardian to monitor their children’s activities and promptly stop any activity that may hinder or destroy their future.
