Police have formally charged Ibrahim Samura, a tiller and motorbike rider, with the murder of Alfred Jusu.

Samura, who stands accused of fatally wounding Jusu on May 25, 2024, in Gloucester Village, is facing one count of murder before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at the Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1.

During the court proceedings, the third prosecution witness, Detective Formeh Kargbo of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) at Hill Top Police Station, testified under oath. Kargbo recounted how he received a report of the alleged murder from Gloucester Village Headman, Frederick Hanciles, on the day of the incident.

Upon arrival at the crime scene, Kargbo and his team discovered Jusu’s lifeless body with multiple stab wounds. Kargbo confirmed that he took photographs of the deceased, which were later presented as evidence in court.

Jusu’s body was subsequently transported to the Connaught Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination. According to the prosecution, on May 27, 2024, Samura was arrested and held in police custody. The deceased’s uncle, Timothy Saio, identified the body and received the official cause of death certificate following the postmortem. Photographs from the examination were also tendered in court.

On June 8, 2024, police escorted the accused to the crime scene in Mamodu Town, where he allegedly committed the crime. Days later, on June 10, an additional caution statement from Samura was recorded and admitted into evidence. After receiving legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), a formal charge of murder was filed on August 14, 2024.

Following cross-examination by the accused, Magistrate Kekura ordered Samura to remain in custody and adjourned the case until October 21, 2024.
