The Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), in a press release dated Tuesday, 14th February 2023 cautioned the Interim Transition Governance Committee (ITGC) of the All People’s Congress Party to desist from using invectives and innuendos against President Julius Maada Bio and the First Lady, Fatima Bio.
According to the press release from PPRC, the APC party members over the weekend, in a video making rounds on social media, heaped unruly and abusive language on both the president and his wife.
The indecent behaviors happened while the immediate former presidential flag bearer of the APC, Dr. Samura Kamara, was in Mankeni, to officially re-affirm his intention/interest for the ticket to lead the APC party in the coming June 24, 2023, presidential and parliamentary general elections in the country.
The PPRC, the body charged with the responsibility to regulate the activities of all political parties in the country, under Section 39 (1)(c&d) and 40(1)of the Political Parties Act No.25 of 2022, vehemently cautioned the leadership of the APC party to desist forthwith from such an unruly behavior, adding that, the leadership should also ensure that it sternly advises its entire membership to deviate from such uncivilized action, or the PPRC would be left with no option than to levy serious fines or punishments against the All People’s Congress.
The PPRC equally used the opportunity to vehemently warn other political parties and their leaders to refrain from using offensive language against their opponents, noting that they need to maintain peace, unity, and order if only they need the forthcoming elections to be peaceful.
