President Julius Maada Bio has officially allocated a cheque of 5 billion old leones to landowners in Jembe, signaling the commencement of construction for the highly anticipated 300-bed Jembe Regional Hospital.

The project, strategically located along the Bo/Kenema highway, aims to revolutionize healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone.

Myk Berewa, Director of Communication for the State House, confirmed the development, describing the project as a “game-changer” for healthcare and medical education. The facility will include a comprehensive medical campus featuring a medical school, pharmacy school, and nursing school, aimed at establishing a centralized hub for advanced medical training and services.

The hospital is expected to cater to approximately 1,000 patients daily, attracting both local and international patients and positioning itself as a premier destination for medical tourism. This influx is projected to boost Sierra Leone’s economy while elevating healthcare standards across the country.

One of the critical objectives of the Jembe Regional Hospital is to curb the nation’s dependence on overseas medical treatments, which currently cost the government $3 million annually. The facility will provide essential care to underserved communities, marking a significant step forward in achieving Sierra Leone’s healthcare vision.

Construction of the hospital is set to begin immediately, with officials emphasizing its transformative impact on healthcare access and medical education in the region.
