President Julius Maada Bio officially opened the Bo Homecoming Cultural Festival at the Bo Mini Stadium yesterday, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to peace, cultural preservation, and national cohesion.
The festival, themed “Our Heritage Promotes Peace and Development,” showcases the rich traditions of the Bo district, drawing attendees from its 16 chiefdoms and beyond. The event featured vibrant cultural displays, traditional attire, local cuisine, and agricultural exhibitions.
In a symbolic highlight, Paramount Chiefs, dressed in traditional regalia, led processions accompanied by dance troupes, offering a vivid celebration of Sierra Leone’s diverse cultural heritage.
Addressing the audience, President Bio stressed the need to safeguard Sierra Leone’s traditions for future generations. “As a nation, we must ensure that our children understand our customs and traditions. If caution is not taken, the next generation may lose touch with their mother’s or father’s language,” he said.
The President commended the festival as a unifying force that underscores the country’s cultural diversity and strengthens social cohesion. He praised the efforts of the event organizers, noting that development flourishes in a peaceful environment.
Chairman of the festival’s organizing committee, Abdulai Bum Wai, expressed gratitude for the President’s support and described the event as a platform for fostering peace and unity. Acting Chairman of the All Political Parties Association, Dr. Prince Alex Harding, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the event as evidence of Sierra Leone’s ongoing peace and stability.
The cultural festival, which began on December 25, will continue until January 1, 2025, featuring performances such as the national color-themed display by Dr. Kposo Wai’s troupe and a grand durbar by the 16 Paramount Chiefs.
The Bo Homecoming Cultural Festival has firmly positioned itself as a key event in Sierra Leone’s national calendar, celebrating heritage while advancing peace and development.
