Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) issued a public notice on November 29, 2023, addressing a significant setback in their services. The announcement highlighted the adverse impact of a heavy downpour, thunder, and lightning on November 28, 2023, at the Leicester Peak Substation.
The severe weather conditions resulted in the destruction of the network distribution infrastructure, including a vital 250KVA transformer responsible for powering radios and television transmitters. Consequently, the affected transformer’s failure may cause transmission challenges for numerous radio and television stations relying on EDSA’s grid.
In response to the crisis, EDSA has promptly initiated repair works to rectify the damaged network. The ongoing efforts include the removal of the faulty transformer, paving the way for the installation of a new, functional transformer. The Authority expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to radio and television stations, as well as their broader audience, acknowledging the potential disruptions in transmission.
Assuring the public of their commitment to resolving the issue swiftly, EDSA emphasized that every measure is being taken to complete the repair work at the earliest possible time. The Authority aims to restore power promptly, minimizing the impact on broadcasting services and ensuring a seamless experience for consumers.
