On Tuesday, October 22, 2024, Freetown Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, alongside her deputy Kweku Lisk, Chief Administrator Rahman Tom Farmar, and other key staff of the Freetown City Council (FCC), held a crucial meeting with representatives from the World Bank’s Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project (RUSLP).
The meeting focused on assessing the progress of ongoing development projects supported by the World Bank, aimed at improving the city’s infrastructure and resilience.
The World Bank delegation, led by Senior Disaster Risk Management Specialist Francis Samson Nkoka and PIU Lead Anthony Koroma, reviewed several initiatives benefiting Freetown. Among these are the #FreetownTheTreeTown project, which seeks to increase urban green spaces, and upgrades to three informal settlements.
The development of both the Western Area Regional Structure Plan and the Freetown Structure Plan, key urban planning frameworks, were also discussed.
The Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project is a vital part of FCC’s “Transform Freetown-Transforming Lives” development agenda, with the World Bank continuing its role as a major donor and partner in the city’s efforts to drive sustainable growth and improve living conditions.
