The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas, was honored on Monday, January 27, 2025, with the Innovative Leadership Award in recognition of his commitment to staff development within Parliament.
The award was presented by the Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series Team, led by Director Mohamed Jalloh, in the Speaker’s office at Tower Hill.
During the presentation, Director Jalloh highlighted Speaker Thomas’s pivotal role in initiating and supporting programs aimed at enhancing staff capacity. He recalled that in May 2024, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, emphasized Speaker Thomas’s passion for improving the skills and welfare of Parliamentary staff.
“The Parliamentary Learning and Sharing Series, which has benefited an average attendance of 248 staff members, was inspired by Mr. Speaker’s vision,” Jalloh stated. Topics covered in the series included corporate dress codes, international learning experiences, and retirement planning, among others.
Acknowledging the recognition, Speaker Thomas expressed gratitude to the team for their work. “The team has truly aligned with the leadership vision of Parliament,” he remarked. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering a supportive and empowering environment for staff.
“I will continue to ensure that everyone is comfortable and valued,” he said, emphasizing the importance of welfare and capacity-building initiatives under his leadership.
The award underscores Speaker Thomas’s dedication to creating a progressive and effective parliamentary workforce.
