Sierra Leone  and Rwanda have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on internal security and correctional services on Monday, August 26, in Kigali.

The MoU was signed by Rwanda’s Interior Minister Vincent Biruta and Sierra Leone’s Maj. Gen. (Rtd) David Tamba Ocil Taluva. The agreement addresses several areas including information technology, cybersecurity, and the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

The deal also includes cooperation on combating illegal firearms trafficking, human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, and other emerging threats. In the realm of correctional services, the countries will share information, provide technical cooperation, and exchange best practices on custodial services and the transfer of sentenced individuals.

Additional cooperation will focus on vocational training for prisoners, inmate rehabilitation programs, and expertise sharing in project management.
