The Chief Minister of the Republic of Sierra Leone Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has challenged political aspirants to showcase their contributions towards developing their communities in his 53rd audio of 26th March 2025.
Sengeh addressed some political aspirants who habitually promise to take development to their people when entrusted with power or leadership positions, but dared to challenge them to pinpoint the development they have hitherto pioneered in their communities, or what they have achieved in their current positions by ways of seeking justice or solving problems for the people.
“We as citizens see different layers of leadership and in the SLPP we are a democratic party and we are currently conducting national intra-party elections with contests that warrant a rerun, but overall we are following the democratic process” he stated.
At the moment, the Chief Minister said a considerable number of people have registered their interest in running for different positions in the SLPP with lofty promises, a process he described as “part of democracy.”
The promises of these political aspirants were met with skepticism by Dr. David Sengeh because he seems keen to be interested in the positive legacies of the aspirants and the development they are bringing to communities in their current status.
The avalanche of flyers inundating social media from the main opposition APC for positions such as Flag bearer, Mayor and Parliamentarian, prompted the Chief Minister to demand self-introspection particularly from those who held influential positions in the previous government.
He alluded to a mayor who wants to lead a political party but has failed in her current position because of incomprehension of purpose and function, instead of being developmentally oriented by improving the lives of people; the individual in question is focused on photo shooting and attending international conferences.
The Chief Minister made reference to people who have served in the previous governments as Ministers or heads of MDA’s but has nothing to show in the form of tangible developments that could linger in the minds of the people forever.
“If you say you are advocating for women, what actions have you taken to support them in your local council within your current capacity and status?” he asked.
He identified people from all walks of life who are making a difference in the lives of people, stressing on the fact that one does NOT need to attain the highest elevation or position in society to create positive impacts in the lives of people.
The Chief Minister mentioned ordinary Sierra Leoneans such as musicians and activists who have devised innovative ways to serve their people without waiting for the support of the government.
“Even if you are not a Minister or Director but as a revenue officer deployed in the border areas, what have you done to increase revenue generation?” he questioned.
He continued by probing into the role of the private sector towards national development and queried the tax compliance outlook of the private sector towards revamping the economy.
Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh expressed concern regarding the individualistic roles citizens play in bringing about development in their respective communities, as according to him, if each of us plays our part regardless of how little, we will collectively create a society of opportunities where everyone thrives irrespective of political affiliation.
Hmm, all of the statements he has said what he has done. No subversion to the school from last year,23,24&25, first term are not yet complete.
Chief minister you are such an extraordinary visionary person that speaks almost the whole set of truth that I do admire so much in most of your speeches. it’s indeed that there are a lot of fake promises put forward after been voted or elected by the people it becomes an ordinary talk now in the past without addressing the said current need of the people after a bunches of promises altered, most of the aspirant has never crave for any development in their local communities while aspiring for governmental positions and want people to entrust them power after which it becomes an order of the day without complementing the people or the community at large. If we want a better and sustainable change, we must have to embrace change in our routine first, together with our people so there will be no doubt to attain any governmental position and in any way we the people of this country must be served well.
I stand with you the best chief minister ever salone to come with government close to the people’s,together we will deliver.
Is this how he hopes to secure the flagbearership, by attacking those who have thrown their hats in the ring before him? And Sengeh, if the Freetown mayor is whom you are addressing, she has done more in her position, than you have done in yours. You are also part of the cocaine administration, you would protect Bio and Jos. You are part of the administration that stole elections, so please go siddom saful.
