“Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has arrived in Japan as Head of Delegation to represent His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and the people of Sierra Leone at the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).”
The conference has not yet started, but the Chief Minister shared that the team is already meeting with partners and preparing for upcoming discussions.
Their goal is to build stronger ties with Japan and other countries and institutions taking part in the conference. These early engagements are focused on cooperation in areas that matter to Sierra Leone’s growth and partnerships.
This trip follows an earlier visit by President Bio to Japan, where he spoke about the need for investment in skills training, especially in the automotive industry, and support for the private sector. Since that visit, work has been ongoing to build on that direction.

Chief Minister Sengeh mentioned two recent developments connected to this effort. He visited the Dole pineapple farm and processing site in Sumbuya, one of the largest of its kind in the country. He also launched the automotive training program in Kissy, which is helping young people gain practical skills in vehicle maintenance and related areas.
These activities are part of the government’s ongoing push to grow industries, support training, and strengthen local opportunities.
The Sierra Leone delegation will continue its work in Japan in the days leading up to the main sessions of TICAD 9.
