Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has taken to social media to critique the campaign messaging of flagbearer aspirants from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC), specifically taking aim at the age and slogans of the candidates.
In a recent post, Dr. Sengeh highlighted what he viewed as a contradiction in the campaign of an unnamed APC contender. He pointed out the irony of a candidate over the age of 60 adopting the slogan “Voice of the Youth.”
“One of my APC Flagbearer uncles is above 60 years old and his slogan is this ‘Voice of the Youth’. You can’t make this up,” Sengeh wrote, using emojis to express his amusement.
The Chief Minister expanded his criticism to the broader field of APC aspirants, suggesting a lack of originality in their proposed visions for the country. He questioned whether the candidates were “copying and pasting” their platforms, noting that they all appear to be going to the “same place for vision.”
Sengeh listed several slogans currently being used by opposition candidates to illustrate his point, including:
“Joy IS COMING”
“Change IS COMING”
“RESET to Redeem”
“RESET to heal”
“Hope to Reality”
He concluded the list with the Krio phrase “pan dorti,” seemingly dismissing the viability or substance of the opposition’s promises.
The comments come as political rhetoric intensifies ahead of the opposition party’s internal elections to select a standard-bearer.
