Chief Minister Dr. Moinina David Sengeh has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises to the people of Kono District, emphasizing that their concerns remain a priority for President Julius Maada Bio and the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Speaking on Saturday, August 17, during the Office of the Chief Minister’s Townhall Series in Kono, Dr. Sengeh highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to deliver on its manifesto promises.

During the series of meetings held across the district, including sessions at Kono District Council Hall and the SLPP office, Dr. Sengeh highlighted key achievements under President Bio’s administration. He noted that Kono District now enjoys one of the most consistent power supplies in the country, fulfilling the President’s earlier promise to provide electricity to the area.

He also referenced the construction of the 78-kilometer Koidu-Guinea border highway, initiated by President Bio in 2021. The $94 million infrastructure project, according to Dr. Sengeh, is designed to boost trade between Sierra Leone and Guinea. “As Chief Minister, let me assure you all that we will deliver the road,” he stated.

Dr. Sengeh addressed the progress made in education, specifically the establishment of Kono University. He announced that approximately 130 students are set to graduate from the university, and funding for its construction has been secured and disbursed to the relevant consultants. “Diamonds should not be the biggest value for people in this district—education should be,” he stressed.

Emphasizing the importance of inclusive and participatory governance, Dr. Sengeh noted that the Townhall Series would be expanded to other districts, following successful events in Bombali and Moyamba. He highlighted the government’s delivery architecture, including a performance contract that is publicly available, urging citizens to hold public officials accountable to ensure transparency.

Dr. Sengeh also encouraged the people of Kono to support the ‘Feed Salone’ Project by purchasing local produce, and he participated in the distribution of farming equipment and fertilizers to local farmers alongside the Minister of Agriculture.

The Chief Minister called for unity among Kono’s diverse population, emphasizing that political differences should not divide them. He urged the community to focus on shared goals for the district’s development. Attendees were given the opportunity to voice their concerns, including the completion of the road project, job creation, healthcare improvements, and scholarships.

The Townhall Series underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain open communication with citizens and address their needs as part of its broader development agenda.
