The Torma Bum agricultural initiative is making significant strides in increasing local rice production and driving economic development in Sierra Leone, with recent developments enhancing the region’s capacity for rice cultivation, processing, and distribution.
Key advancements include the construction of two interconnected rice mills, designed to streamline rice processing operations. To support increased output, three large warehouses have been built, ensuring efficient storage and distribution of harvested crops.
The project is also focused on large-scale agricultural expansion, with the implementation of a 4,000-hectare irrigation system. This system will provide consistent water access to farms, enhancing harvest reliability and contributing to regional food security.
Currently, a new rice crop is being established, further boosting the project’s production potential. A dedicated facility for rice manufacturing, packaging, and branding is also being developed, aiming to expand market access for locally grown rice and improve livelihoods for farmers.
As a direct result of these efforts, Torma Bum rice is now available in local markets, with over 1,000 bags ready for purchase. This milestone represents a significant step towards promoting the consumption of locally produced rice and reducing dependence on imports.
Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh has urged consumers to support the initiative by purchasing Torma Bum rice. “Let’s buy local, eat local and Feed Salone,” he emphasized.
Wow 😳 what a good investment. If I may ask, what is the cost for a bag?
Wow, thanks.
But what about the 21 ships rice donated to SL 🇸🇱 from china?
And what is the price of this Torma Bum rice?
Is it available now in all the regions?
What a good move by the government
