The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has raised concerns following the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) decision to withhold results for over 25,000 candidates in the 2024 West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The Ministry announced that the Sierra Leone Examination Committee, responsible for examining the withheld cases, will convene on November 5 and 6 to address the issues.
The Committee, chaired by Chief Education Officer Professor Yatta Kanu, will review each withheld result to determine the specific reasons and a resolution pathway. The Ministry emphasized the significance of transparency and fairness in the process, especially given the potential impact on students’ future educational opportunities.
“The Ministry recognizes the critical nature of these results to the students’ academic and career prospects,” the statement read, underscoring the government’s commitment to a swift resolution.
Parents, candidates, and schools affected by the delays are urged to remain patient, with the Ministry promising timely updates as the committee’s review progresses.
