The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) has made history with the commissioning of Second Lieutenant Wokie Yokie as its first female cadet officer to complete the Indian Cadet Training program.
Second Lieutenant Yokie, a young Sierra Leonean soldier, successfully completed a rigorous one-year training program at the Indian Cadet Academy, which concluded on September 7, 2024. The demanding training regimen included physical and mental challenges, testing her resilience and determination.
Prior to joining the RSLAF, Second Lieutenant Yokie graduated from Njala University with a degree in Business Information and Technology. She was enlisted into the armed forces in May 2023 and trained as an Other Rank at the Armed Forces Training Centre Benguema Barracks.
Her exceptional performance and leadership qualities led to her selection for the Short-Service Commissioning Course in India.
The training program in India consisted of two phases, focusing on weapons training, map reading, leadership, management, service subjects, and physical fitness. The second phase emphasized leadership and command, internal security, and counter-insurgency.
